Master the on-location editorial shoot with simple lighting setup workshop

NOTE: THIS IS A HANDS ON WORKSHOP. YOU MUST HAVE A GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF THE BASICS OF PHOTOGRAPHY AND BE COMFORTABLE USING YOUR CAMERA ON MANUAL MODE (M). SPACES ARE STRICTLY LIMITED TO A SMALL GROUP SO THAT YOU GET THE MOST FROM THE CLASS.

Requirements:

 

• Good knowledge of the basics of photography and be comfortable using your camera.
• A DSLR / mirrorless camera, or any digital camera that has full manual control settings and a standard hotshoe mount. (Older Sony camera users with the non-standard hotshoe; we have you covered with adaptors!) Also bring along any lenses you have for your camera.
• A fully charged camera battery (or multiple batteries is even better!)
• Memory card(s) for your camera.
• A note book or similar, to jot down things if that’s how you learn

 

What we are about?

 

I’m constantly receiving requests from advanced amateur photographers to run a workshop that’s NOT about high-end fashion, advertising or commercial photography. These ‘traditional’ shooting environments normally require a whole crew of creative and professional models, a studio with a pristine white background, and to be lit by expensive lighting equipment. The fact of the matter is, this setting isn’t always applicable to the real world of the type of shoot you do. So this workshop is all about getting involved and learning about some practical ways of improving your own photography.

So here it is folks! I am proud to introduce a workshop built on the feedback from advanced amateur photographers like yourself.

We are not using professional models. We are not using any hair/makeup stylists. On top of that, we are not using any expensive lighting equipment. This workshop is all about getting you to create professional, killer editorial or portrait images in a lean and mean style!

 

Course outline

 

Course run time: 3.5 - 4 hours.

 

• Gear talk. What you think you need, what you really need, and what you are using.
• Location talk. How to pick a location; indoor vs outdoor.

• Model talk; Poses and ideas.
• Live shoot on location with model.

 

 

What you will learn

• Confidence in utilising simple lighting to create beautiful, professional editorial style images on location.
• How to shoot on location with any type of lighting. (clouady, sunny, etc)
• The understanding of what gear you “really” need for the shoot.
• How to work with your subject.
• How to work around your location.
• Hands-on experience and real time feedback from me.

Optional

If you have any speedlite, speed light, flash gun, flash or other portable light modifier you wish to discuss with me, you are most welcome to bring them along! However this is not a requirement.
